Private prisons sue states for millions if they don’t stay full
State run prisons are no better. When they get too empty the unions representing guards start getting nervous, and with just a few phone calls, probation officers start kicking in doors and giving felons violations on bullshit like having an unauthorized savings account or “possession of a weapon” for having kitchen knives. I did time with men who got caught up in these round ups, their stories are always ignored by these pieces about “private” prisons. The next time someone talks to you about “prisons for profit” remind them that ALL prisons are for profit, and all of them need to be closed down.
